WAY FOR THE DESERT TO DESERT (PART I)

After several failed attempts, and have postponed this little trip over a year, finally started the first trip to our neighboring continent. Our first and hopefully not the last time we visited Morocco.

Since we visited the Atacama desert, we wanted to return to the desert and what better destination than Morocco.

So there we were. Destination Marrakech and from there hire a car, so after crossing the Atlas, follow the road to the dunes of Merzouga. Total
, a lot of miles, which initially thought it would be very difficult to do. Let it. First stop

. Marrakech. We left a Spain

snow to get a bright Marrakech. Since aircraft and following an approach of fear, you could see what awaited us. A wonderful image of a mud-colored city, petite houses and narrow streets. And indeed, we find a beautiful city, very lively and pretty wildly.

A downtown buildings with narrow streets and small people, where the souks and other attractions to visit and an area "new", where extensive avenues custodes by buildings of various heights. But yeah, one thing in common. The color of the buildings and light. A wonderful light that bathes numerous parks and gardens.

And the food ... MMMMMMMMM. Upon entering the souk (which I will speak later), we take the first of many teas and cakes, and we saw that this was going to like it. Tagines, couscous, kebabs and more. Wonderful.

And of course they are shopping. Since we had been warned of harassment to tourists and the "rules" to be followed in order to buy trinkets at reasonable prices. And we, we that if followed. We have spared no evil, have good racing well, we have taken a store for considering our ridiculous offer and other invited us to tea. A fun this time if we enjoyed, not as we went through our Asian tour earlier.

But, as always, the heavy is better to ignore them ... because otherwise you can pass it without noticing or account

or you may be asked to accompany 20 euros for a couple of streets (it was our worst moment, as we lost in an area not so good and we were threatened by a cocoon that we asked too much money.)

But still worth kicking the medina and the souk carefree and at ease.

And of course enjoy the tranquility of their courtyards riads. Because although the streets are narrow, houses are open to the interior in order to have natural light, ventilation and insulation of exterior chaos.

After a couple of days of contact, we set off into the desert. Our first obstacle, the passage of the High Atlas. was a little scared, because the weather is not, and sincerely hoped for snow or rain. But no. Our rented ford worked perfectly and we had no problem in crossing the mountains.

But be careful about various things while circulating in Morocco. First beware of other drivers. As you imagine, traffic rules are reduced to 0. With a horn and a little bad blood, all exceeded.
Segundo. Beware of other people. You have to be careful ... children on foot, men on foot, thousands of bicycles, tractors and donkeys. We have never avoided as much ass here. Third
. Beware of speed. If you put up 100, we must obey, because otherwise you will be fined, because otherwise no, but fell out speeding tickets to everyone. We get rid, but we know more than one who has had to pay a bribe to let him pass.

Por el camino

As with all these warnings and patience we got the Kelaa Mgouna. To stop at a kasbah pecnoctar. Incredible. Recommended site, with an incredible view and a brutal entertainment.

On the way there, we went through the Dades valley, one of the most beautiful roads we have ever seen. A valley dotted by numerous kasbah, picturesque villages, palm groves and desert sand. Beautiful. We passed
Todra Gorge (expect more), and looong plains where we passed with no one for miles and stopped for lunch at the odd site is not highly recommended.

Conclusion: A road worth taking, since it is a new landscape worth exploring without timetables or routes.

But hey, at the end and after a couple of days' journey arrived at Merzouga. Dune area where there are some that reach over 200 meters and can be seen from the road, ending the first leg of the trip, and starting with the second part which will arrive shortly.
